As we grow in grace, we see that life isn’t just about me and mine, but is about working together and helping each other.
Jesus calls us to take care of the lost and the least. At Shepherd of the Hills we take that call seriously by reaching out to
people locally and globally. To find out more about our programs, please see our Weekly Announcements, Calendar, and monthly newsletter, The Shepherd’s Voice.
Once a month this group gets together to knit, sew, and crochet useful items for
people in need. We’ve been knitting bandages for AIDS patients, crocheting caps for newborns, and sewing and tying quilts for use in disaster areas.
By paying farmers a fair price for their produce we help others help themselves. Shepherd of the Hills uses fairly traded coffee at all events and stocks fairly traded cocoa, tea, and chocolate for people to buy for personal use.
Every Lent we participate in raising money to buy animals for families in need. During the spring we travel with our Sunday School to the Heifer model farm in Ceres, Calif., to learn more about the work of Heifer International.
In 2006 and again in 2007 a delegation from Shepherd of the Hills has gone to work
in the areas affected by Hurricanes Rita and Katrina. We raise special offerings to assist
in our team’s work. View a slideshow.
In 2008 a team of volunteers from Shepherd of the Hills took part in Rebuilding Together, a national program that connects volunteers with local people who need help maintaining or upgrading their houses. View a slideshow.
The first Sunday of the month members are urged to remember the hungry and to bring donations for our local food bank.
There are many more projects and opportunities to give. Shepherd of the Hills strives to donate 10% of our offerings to mission and ministry outside our church. Members give generously of their time and talent to many local groups. Because we have been given so much, we give much in return.
